Tigers Sweep Stormy Petrels

GREENCASTLE, IND. - Braving single-digit wind chills, DePauw and Oglethorpe concluded their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference series with a Sunday afternoon doubleheader.
The Tigers swept the twinbill by scores of 6-5 in the first game that went nine innings and 6-3 in the second game.
Steve Spasojevich's single in the bottom of the ninth scored John Stephens from second with the game-winning run in the first game. Stephens opened the inning with a double.
Oglethorpe jumped out to an early lead in game one with one run each in the first and third innings.
Scott Hamer's RBI single in the third cut the margin in half before the Tigers erupted for three runs in the fourth. John Stephens drove in two with a triple and scored on a passed ball to give DePauw a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers stretched the margin to 5-2 in the fifth on Jason Geringer's sacrifice fly.
The Stormy Petrels started their comeback in the sixth when Brock Zauderer opened the inning with a double, was moved to third on a ground out and scored on Dan Torrenti's sacrifice fly.
Kevin Welch belted a one-out double in the seventh and Ryan Meehan reached base after being hit by a Pat Creel pitch. A two-out balk moved the runners to second and third and Zauderer banged out his third straight two-bagger to tie the score and force extra innings.
Dave Edmonds picked up his third win for the Tigers with two innings of scoreless, one-hit relief. Spasojevich, Hamer and Stephens each collected two hits for the Tigers.

Oglethorpe again got ahead in the first inning of the nightcap with a single run, but DePauw scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead. The Stormy Petrels tied the game in the third before DePauw regained the advantage in the bottom of the inning on Javair Gillett's run-scoring double.
Dan Kelly tied the game for the guests in the fourth with a single to right center that scored Torrenti.
The Tigers nailed down the win in the bottom of the fifth as Gillett ripped a shot to left center that scored John Stephens and Jarrett Hunt. Gillett scored when Jason Geringer's grounder to third was thrown wide of first.
Tyson Becker notched his second win of the season and struck out 10 for the second time this season. Gillett had two its and three RBI for the Tigers. Steve Bloodworth paced Oglethorpe with two hits.
The sweep lifts the Tigers overall record to 12-9 and their SCAC mark to 6-2. Oglethorpe falls to 5-12 and 1-3. The Tigers take on Mississippi College on Tuesday in a doubleheader in Clinton, Miss.
