Five Tigers earn all-SCAC honors

mitchell030505.jpgMay 23, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - Five DePauw baseball players have earned spots on the all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team.

Senior pitcher P.J. Mitchell (pitcured) was a first team choice for the third straight year in addition to earning honorable mention his freshman season. Mithell posted a 7-6 record with two saves and a 3.23 earned run average. His 80 strikeouts established a DePauw single-season record.

Senior catcher Adrian Norris earned first team honors for the second straight year after finishing with a .317 batting average with a team-high 30 runs batted in. He also shared the team lead with four homers. Norris was also selected to the all-SCAC Tournament Team after going 7-for-14 with seven RBI.

Sophomore outfielder Matt Kleine was a first team selection after pacing the Tigers with a .353 average and a team-high 44 runs. He shared the team lead with 11 doubles and four homers and also was named to the all-SCAC Tournament squad.

An honorable mention selection last year, junior outfielder Chris Newman batted .346 for the season with a team-best 54 hits and school record-tying six triples in earning a spot on the first team.

Senior pitcher John Kihlken earned honorable mention after posting a 6-4 record with a 3.45 earned run average.
