Jake Martin Named DePauw's Head Baseball Coach
April 28, 2010
April 28, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Jake Martin, DePauw's interim head baseball coach since August 2009, has been named the University's head baseball coach effective immediately.
Martin led the Tigers to a 24-17 record this season including a second-place finish at last weekend's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament. That finish was DePauw's best since it won the 2001 title. The Tigers entered the tournament as the East Division's top seed after posting a 9-6 conference record.
"I had total confidence that Jake would step in and lead the team this year and he did all we could have hoped for and more," DePauw Director of Athletics Page Cotton said.
"Jake has displayed tremendous leadership and maturity on and off the field and has carried forward the program's tradition of success and been a great role model for the student-athletes," Cotton added.
Prior to being named the interim head coach, Martin served as the team's hitting instructor and recruiting coordinator and directed the team during the fall seasons for six years. DePauw teams have posted a 209-121 record since Martin started at DePauw.
A 2003 Wabash College graduate, Martin earned a bachelor of arts degree in psychology and was a four-year lettermen for the Little Giants. Martin was a two-time team most valuable player and earned all-North Coast Athletic Conference honors as both a pitcher and outfielder.
"I'm grateful for the opportunity over the last year and look forward to building upon the rich tradition that's been established here," Martin said.
"The support from the team and administration has made the transition a smooth one," he added.
The Milroy, Ind., native earned a master’s degree at Indiana State University in 2005. Martin and his wife, Katie, reside in Avon.Back
