Nixon earns SCAC first team honors; Howland is honorable mention
Sophomore forward Joe Nixon was voted to the all-SCAC first team and Mike Howland was an honorable mention selection. Nixon is the Tigers' first player in their two-year history to earn either first or second team honors. Here's the complete team.
Nixon earns SCAC Player of the Week honors in the final week of play
Sophomore forward Joe Nixon earned SCAC Player of the Week honors for the third time this season after averaging 19.5 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the weekend.
Tigers finish season at 17-8 with loss at Oglethorpe
Joe Nixon led DePauw with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Mike Howland added 15 and Joe Ringger 12, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell at Oglethorpe by an 85-64 count in the season finale. Stan Goldberg led the Stormy Petrels with 23 and Scott Bourgeois added 21. The hosts nailed 11 of 24 shots from beyond the three-point line in the win. Tigers win at Millsaps, 70-67
Joe Nixon scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds as the Tigers held on for a 70-67 win at Millsaps. DePauw led by as many as 12 in the first half before the Majors battled back to take the lead midway through the second half with an 11-0 run. Joe Ringger hit two free throws with 1:10 remaining and Mike Howland nailed two with 23 seconds left. Millsaps missed a chance to tie at the buzzer on a 35-footer that went off the rim. STATS
DePauw holds on for 60-52 win at Rose-Hulman
Joe Nixon scored 28, while Joe Ringger added 13 points and nine rebounds as the Tigers snapped a seven-game losing steak to the Engineers in Terre Haute with a 60-52 win. Mike Howland added 12 in the win. Jimmy Kosieniak led Rose-Hulman with 19. STATS
Tigers fall to Trinity, 85-72
Quintin Mason scored 26 points and Ryan Hyslop added 21 as first-place Trinity topped DePauw 85-72. Joe Ringger scored a career-high 17 points followed by Mike Howland with 16 and Jeremy Bettis 11. Trinity shot 55.1 percent from the field for the game. STATS
Dancler scores career-high 26 as Tigers top Pirates, 78-68
Sophomore Darron Dancler made his first start of the season and made it count as he scored a career-high 26 points with seven three-pointers in the Tigers' 78-68 win over visiting Southwestern. Dancler had 20 at the intermission as he nailed six treys in the first half alone. The Tigers built a 19-point lead in the second half, but the Pirates reeled off 14 straight points to close to within five. Tigers watch late nine-point lead end in 11-point overtime loss
The Tigers led most of the game including by nine at 61-52 with less than five minutes to play, but Rhodes battled back to send the game to overtime and then hit all 10 of their free throws in the extra session to beat the Tigers 81-70. Mike Howland led the Tigers with 16 points while Joe Nixon grabbed eight rebounds. Neal Power led Rhodes with 33 points and eight boards. STATS
Second-half run propels host Warriors to 67-63 win over Tigers
Hendrix used a 14-2 run in the second half to take a double-digit lead over the Tigers on the way to a 67-63 win in Conway, Ark. The Tigers could get no closer than three the rest of the way. Joe Nixon scored 20 and grabbed nine boards, while Mike Howland added 18 and dished out a career-high 11 assists in the Tigers' 76-59 win over visiting Sewanee. The Tigers shot 67 percent from the field in the second half on the way to a 70-50 win over visiting Centre. DePauw comes up short in four-point home loss to Engineers
Rose-Hulman led the entire game, but the Tigers were within two points in the final minute in a 62-58 loss to the visiting Engineers. Rose-Hulman led by eight with just over two minutes to play before Dave Gifford hit two free throws and Sean Lewis and Joe Nixon each scored baskets to pull the Tigers to within two. Nixon grabbed a defensive rebound with just over 40 seconds left, but was whistled for an offensive foul and the Engineers hit both free throws. The Tigers battled back from a 19-point deficit to close to within five, but Trinity held on to defeat DePauw 78-73. Joe Nixon scored 17, followed by Joe Ringger with a career-high 15 and Mike Howland with 14. Dave Gifford added 10 rebounds and four steals. DePauw hit 12-of-25 three-pointers. STATS
Nixon's basket lifts Tigers to victory
Joe Nixon's basket with 3.4 seconds left broke a 60-60 tie and his two free throws with 1.9 seconds left boosted the Tigers to a 64-60 win at Southwestern. The sophomore forward earlier broke a 58-58 deadlock with a basket with 1:26 left. Nixon led the Tigers with 14 followed by Mike Howland with 11. Preston Porter paced the Pirates with 22. STATS

For the second time this season, DePauw sophomore forward Joe Nixon has been named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week.
Tigers ranked in two national polls
The Tigers are ranked 17th in the latest D3hoops.com Division III poll and have moved up to 20th in the latest Columbus Multimedia Division III rankings. In the d3hoops.com rankings, the Tigers slipped from 15th after a loss to Sewanee and wins over Hendrix and 22nd-ranked Rhodes. In the Columbus Multimedia rankings, DePauw was ranked in a tie for 24th last week. The Tigers are rated fifth among teams from the South Region.
Nixon earns SCAC honors for second time this season
Sophomore has been named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week for games from Jan. 4-10. Nixon led the 15th-ranked Tigers to wins over Hendrix (68-67) and 22nd-ranked Rhodes (86-55). The honor was Nixon's second this season. Full story
DePauw shocks Rhodes 86-55; moves into first place
The 15th-ranked Tigers shot 54 percent from the field for the game and 61 percent in the second half on the way to an 86-55 win over Rhodes. The Lynx had previously occupied first place in the SCAC, but the Tigers own that spot now. Joe Nixon came off the bench to score 20, while Mike Howland added 13. Joe Ringger grabbed 10 rebounds. 15th-ranked Tigers top Hendrix 68-67
The Tigers trailed most of the game, but took the lead for good with four minutes left on a pair of Sean Lewis free throws. Hendrix trailed by three and had the ball with 25 seconds left, but missed a thee-pointer and two shots in the paint. The Tigers went scoreless over a five-minute stretch late in the game and saw a two-point lead turn into an eight-point deficit in a 64-58 loss at Sewanee. Nixon scores 25 to lead Tigers in win over Earlham
Sophomore forward Joe Nixon, fresh off earning SCAC Player of the Week honors and being selected to D3hoops.com's Team of the Week, scored 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 68-61 win over Earlham at the Hinkle Fieldhouse. The 17th-ranked Tigers used a late 8-0 run to put away 18th-ranked Manchester 84-72. The Tigers led by as many as 10 in the second half before the Spartans closed the gap to four with 3:31 left. Tigers improve to 2-0 in SCAC with 77-55 win over Oglethorpe
For the second straight game, five Tigers scored in double figures to lead the 21st-ranked Tigers to a 77-55 win over visiting Oglethorpe. Bob Steiner led the way with 15 followed by Darron Dancler, Joe Nixon and Mike Howland with 14 each and Sean Lewis with 10. The Tigers connected on all 18 free throws in the win. GAME STATS

Sean Lewis paced five Tigers in double figures with a career-high 17 points in DePauw's 84-65 victory in the SCAC opener against visiting Millsaps. Joe Nixon led the Tigers with 19 points and seven rebounds as DePauw opened the home season with a 78-63 win over Webster. Mike Howland and Darron Dancler each added 10 points. The Tigers used an 18-6 second-half run to gain their biggest lead at 25 points. STATS
Tigers use defense to battle back in second half and defeat Wabash 64-63
DePauw trailed by eight points with 10:21 left, but outscored the host Little Giants14-0 over the next 7:33 to take a 62-56 lead. Wabash tied the score at 62-62 before Dave Gifford's rebound basket with 1:28 left gave the Tigers the lead for good. Tigers Open Season with 66-45 win over Alfred
The Tigers turned up the defensive pressure in the season opener as they defeated Alfred (N.Y.) 66-45 in the opening game at the Rotary Classic at the College of Wooster. The Tigers forced Alfred into 27 turnovers and just 30 percent shooting. Joe Nixon led the Tigers with 14 followed by Bob Steiner with 13 and Joe Ringger with 10.
