January 28, 2007, Jackson, Miss. - DePauw trailed by as many as 21 in the first half and rallied to take a 76-74 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Millsaps.
The Tigers picked up their eighth straight win and improved to 17-3 overall and 8-1 in the SCAC, while the Majors dropped to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the conference. The victory also lifted the Tigers into sole possession of first place in the SCAC.
Austin Brown's dunk with 1:20 left and his free throw with 25 seconds remaining lifted the Tigers from a 74-73 deficit to a 76-74 lead.
Millsaps had a chance for the win after rebounding a DePauw free throw miss with 2.5 seconds left, but Allen Odum's three-point attempt, following a Majors' timeout, was off the mark.
DePauw took an early 6-2 lead, but the Majors scored 16 straight over a six-minute stretch to take a 30-11 lead. That lead reached as many as 21 on a couple occasions with the last on Edrick Montgomery's jumper with 1:00 left in the half.
Reid Sakel's three-point play and Matt McDonald's jumper closed the halftime deficit to 48-32.
Stephen Schott scored five of the Tigers' points during a 7-2 run over the first 3:36 of the second half to close the gap to 50-39.
The Tigers still trailed by nine before Brian Oilar fueled a 13-3 run with 10 of his career-high equaling 17 points to give DePauw a 59-58 lead with 9:44 left.
Millsaps later regained the lead and held a 67-64 advantage before Brown hit two layups and Oilar nailed a three from the corner to push DePauw to a 71-67 lead with just under four minutes remaining.
Montgomery knotted the score with a layup and then a dunk with 3:18 left before Mike Moore put the Tigers ahead, 73-71, with two free throws. Odum gave Millsaps its final lead and last points of the game with a three-pointer with 2:24 left.
Oilar led five DePauw double-figure scorers with his 17, while Brown added 14. Schott, Reid Sakel and Ryan Werntz each scored 11 in the win. Schott paced the Tigers with seven rebounds and Moore dished out nine assists.
Montgomery led Millsaps with 22 points and 11 rebounds, while Rodney Rogan added 15 points and Lorenzo Bailey added 12.
DePauw shot 53.8 percent for the game including 61.5 percent in the second half, while the Majors hit 44.1 percent for the contest and just 31.4 percent in the second half.
The Tigers return to SCAC play on Saturday, February 3, when they travel to Centre.
