November 15, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw defensive end Dustin Hertel was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Wabash.
Hertel had eight total tackles, including four solos and three tackles for loss of 17 yards in Saturday's 17-14 loss to the Little Giants.
Hertel also had two sacks for 13 yards as well as two quarterback hurries as the DePauw defense held the high-powered and nationally-ranked Wabash offense well below its season averages. The Little Giants passed for just 178 yards and were held to 257 yards of total offense.
Coming into the contest, Wabash was averaging 37.7 points per game (22nd in Division III), 332.2 yards of passing offense (ninth in Division III) and 486.1 yards of total offense (11th in Division III).
Hertel finished the season with 54 tackles, 7.0 sacks (third in the SCAC) and a league-leading 14.0 tackles for loss (tied with Trinity's Dustin Allen).
The honor was his second of the season.
