Whitman tops Albion; advances to third-round match with DePauw

May 5, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Twelfth-ranked Whitman improved to 24-7 on the season and advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship third round following an 8-1 win over Albion. The Britons wrapped up their season at 16-7.

Whitman advances to Sunday's third-round match at noon and will face eighth-ranked DePauw which defeated Transylvania earlier today by a 9-0 score.

The Missionaries took a 2-1 lead after doubles as the number two team of Robbie Munday and Christoph Fuchs defeated Brandon Still and Nate Marshall 8-1 and the number three squad of Steven Ly and Jake Cappel topped Ben Miller and Andrew Lulek by an 8-2 count.

Albion's number one doubles duo of Neil Forster and Jon Vandenberg defeated Phalkum Mam and Matt Solomon, 8-4.

Whitman's Dan Wilson defeated Andrew Lulek at number six singles 6-1, 6-2 and Steven Ly made it 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jon Vandenberg at number two. Whitman wrapped up the match at number one singles where Phalkum Mam topped Neil Forster 6-2, 6-2.

The Missionaries won the final three matches at three through five singles. Robbie Munday defeated Brandon Still 6-3, 6-4, while Matt Solomon topped Nate Marshall 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 1-0 (10-3) and Jake Cappel defeated Ben Miller 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
