GAME NOTES

Greencastle, Ind. - The 26-3 and fifth-ranked DePauw women’s basketball team puts its 16-game win streak on the line when it travels to 20-5 Thomas More on Saturday, March 6, for an NCAA Championship second-round game. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. in Crestview Hills, Ky., and the live WGRE broadcast may be accessed online

The teams met on December 22 in Greencastle with Thomas More handing the Tigers one of just three losses on the season and their only home defeat in a 65-63 contest. Brooke Warner's layup with six seconds left gave the Saints the win after they trailed by five points with just under three minutes to play.

The Tigers opened tournament play with an 88-44 victory over Aurora in a first-round game at DePauw. In that game DePauw shot 53 percent from the floor and 62.5 percent from three-point range while committing a season-low nine turnovers.

DePauw earned automatic qualification into the Division III tournament by winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament last Sunday with a 62-57 win over third-ranked and defending national champion Trinity. Thomas More earned a spot in the 50-team field as a Pool B independent.

The Tigers are making their fifth tournament appearance with a 7-4 record with trips in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2002 and 2004. The Tigers advanced to the round of 16 in 1998 and 1999 and finished third in 2002.

Thomas More is making its fourth trip to the NCAA postseason with an all-time tournament record of 3-3. The Saints earned appearances in 1997, 2001 and 2002. They advanced to the round of 16 with two wins in 1997 and notched a first-round win in 2002.

The winner of Saturday's game advances to the round of 16 on Friday, March 12, against the winner of Saturday's Wilmington at Franklin game. The site and time are to be determined on Sunday.
