Mitchell tosses shutout as Tigers defeat Little Giants 4-0

Crawfordsville, Ind. - Sophomore P.J. Mitchell allowed just five singles with no runners advancing past second and tossed his second shutout of the season as DePauw defeated Wabash 4-0. DePauw improved to 23-12 on the season, while the Little Giants dropped to 12-20.

 

The teams battled through seven scoreless innings before the Tigers struck for three in the eighth. John Younger walked with two outs and Matt Deahl advanced him to third with a single. Ryan Sipe singled to center to score Younger and advanced to second on an error. Deahl scored on a wild pitch and Sipe came home on a passed ball.

 

Zach Harris led off the ninth by being hit by a pitch. Chris Newman singled and moved to second on the throw from the outfield. Norris plated Harris with a suicide squeeze.

 

Kevin Ehinger had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Phil Ramos had two for the Little Giants. Mitchell improved to 8-2 on the season with eight strikeouts and no walks in his seventh complete game. For the season, Mitchell has struck out 53 and walked just eight. John Thiry dropped to 2-6 with the loss.

 

The two teams square off in a doubleheader at Walker Field on Saturday beginning a 1 p.m.
