Nine DePauw players earn all-SCAC honors

Greencastle, Ind. - A total of nine DePauw baseball players were selected to the all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference team in voting by the conference's 10 head coaches. Six of those players were voted to the first team. The Tigers finished the season with a school-record 28 wins against just 14 losses and were 13-3 in SCAC East Division play.

Senior first baseman Kevin Ehinger, junior second baseman Ryan Sipe, sophomore shortstop Zach Harris, junior center fielder John Younger, senior pitcher Tyson Becker and sophomore pitcher P.J. Mitchell were named to the first team.

Sipe led the team with a .435 batting average with team highs of 53 runs, 70 hits, 17 doubles and a .513 on-base percentage. A first team selection in 2003 and honorable mention in 2002, Sipe was second on the team with eight homers and third with 34 RBI. Ehinger, who earned first team honors last season, was second on the team with a .415 batting average and led the squad with 10 home runs, 65 RBI and a .769 slugging percentage.   

Harris, an honorable mention selection a year ago, ranked fourth with a .354 batting average, was second with 14 doubles and 38 RBI. Younger was third on the team with a .384 batting average and tied for second with 61 base hits.

An honorable mention choice last year, Mitchell led the team with an 8-3 record and a 1.78 earned run average and posted two shutouts and eight complete games. He struck out 62 batters in a team-high 86 innings pitched and walked just nine batters. Becker notched a 4-4 record with a 4.18 ERA and struck out 54 batters in 71 innings. He was an honorable mention choice in 2001 and 2002 and first team last year.

Junior pitcher Mark Alson, sophomore third baseman Matt Deahel and sophomore designated hitter Greg DeBeer were honorable mention selections.
