bondisteele.jpgANN ARBOR, Mich. - The DePauw doubles team of Liz Bondi and Elizabeth Steele dropped its first-round match at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Michigan.

Stanford University's Alicia Barnes and Erin Burdette, ranked 13th in Division I, defeated Bondi and Steele by an 8-2 score to hand the DePauw duo its first loss in 20 matches this year. The Tigers' doubles squad now moves to the consolation bracket where they will play the team of Whitney Benik and Lolita Frangulyan of the University of Florida on Friday.

Bondi and Steele are the first Division III players, male or female, to compete in the strictly Division I tournament. They earned qualification into the tournament after winning the ITA Division III title and then the ITA Super Bowl of Small College Tennis.
