Tiger softball team opens with doubleheader split

February 26, 2005, St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw opened the 2005 season with a doubleheader split at Maryville (Mo.). The Tigers opened with an 8-4 win in eight innings, but dropped the nightcap by a 5-1 count.
Maryville jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a run in the second before the Tigers scored twice in the fifth on Laura Schlensker's RBI double and a run-scoring single by Lauren Curosh. The Saints knotted the score at 2-2 with one in the bottom of the sixth.
In extra innings, DePauw scored six in the eighth as Nicole Kernan singled in a pair. Carli Worthman drove in a run on a fielder's choice before Ashley Sewell drove in three with a double. Maryville scored two in the bottom half of the eighth on a two-run single by Katie Wang.
Curosh picked up the win with Heidi Patton suffering the loss.
In the nightcap Maryville took a 2-0 lead in the second and added two more in the fourth before the Tigers scored once in the fifth on a throwing error.
The Tigers travel to Transylvania on March 5 for a doubleheader.Back
