Sixth-ranked DePauw falls in NCAA second round match to eight-ranked Denison

May 8, 2005, Granville, Ohio - The sixth-ranked DePauw women's tennis team bowed out of the NCAA Division III Championship after losing at eighth-ranked Denison, 5-3, in second round action.
The Tigers jumped out to an early lead after winning two of the three doubles matches. Liz Bondi and Jill Anderson defeated Amelia Crace and Lauren Parsons, 8-6, at number one and Connie Shim and Alex Nelson beat Erin Gorsich and Meridith Sulser at number three by an 8-1 count. Denison won the number two match as Allison Lesnett and Erin Coughlin defeated Claire Ellis and Amrita Padda 8-3.
DePauw's lone win in singles came at the number one spot where Bondi defeated Crace 6-4, 6-1. Parsons defeated Nelson at number three by a 6-3, 6-1 score and Coughlin beat Erin Andrade 6-4, 6-1 at number four. Lesnett was a 7-6 (7-0), 6-2 winner over Ellis at number five while Sarah Mitchiner defeated Shim 6-3, 6-4 in the number six match.
DePauw finished the season at 16-7, while Denison advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals and improved to 20-2. The Tigerswill be represented at the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships as Bondi is the second-seeded singles player and Bondi and Anderson enter as the third-seeded doubles squad. Play begins on May 21 at Kalamazoo College.
