Rhodes defeats Sewanee in strokes to finish third in SCAC

November 6, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - Rhodes and Sewanee battled to a 1-1 tie through two overtimes before Rhodes outscored Sewanee 2-1 in the first round of penalty strokes to claim a 2-1 victory in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship third-place game.

Sewanee jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first half on Julie Wilson's goal that was assisted by Virginia Adair. Rhodes' Katie Slimp knotted the score at 1-1 on an assist from Hilary Mast with 24:32 left in regulation. In the strokeoff, Elizabeth Erny scored for Rhodes and Charlotte Baptiste scored for Sewanee. On the final stroke of the first series, O'Brien Wolff delivered the game-winner.

Rhodes outshot Sewanee 9-3 and Sewanee held a 10-5 advantage in corners. Alice Cowley posted two saves for Rhodes and Blake Rosen had eight for Rhodes.

Both teams finished the season with 8-9 records.
