Bondi, Huffman and Houin earn top SCAC honors

bondi011706.jpgFebruary 25, 2006, Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw senior forward Liz Bondi (pictured) took top honors as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year in voting by the conference's coaches. The announcement came during the conference tournament semifinals at Rhodes College.

In just her second season with the Tigers, Bondi entered tonight's SCAC Semifinals ranked fifth in the conference in scoring with 17.0 points per game and first in field goal percentage at 57.1 percent. Bondi also ranks 10th in rebounding and 10th in free throw percentage and is the first student-athlete in the SCAC to earn player of the year honors in two different sports (excluding track and field and cross country) as she was also the SCAC Player of the Year in tennis last spring. Her selection marks the third straight year that a DePauw player has earned the honor after Amy Argetsinger did so each of the last two seasons.

Senior forward Lindsay Houin was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year and is the first Tiger to earn the honor. A four-year player for the Tigers, Houin ranks sixth in school history in rebounding and has started each of the last 85 games.

In addition to Bondi's all-conference selection, Suzy Doughty earned second team honors while Gretchen Haehl was a third team choice and Bridget Bailey earned honorable mention.

DePauw head coach Kris Huffman earned SCAC Coach of the Year honors for the fourth time in the Tigers' eight seasons in the conference and sixth time overall including two years in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference.
