DePauw opens SCAC play with split at Centre

March 25, 2006, Danville, Ky. - DePauw opened Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a doubleheader split at Centre. The Tigers lost the first game by a 3-2 score, but came back for a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
DePauw is 8-7 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC, while Centre is 6-10 overall and 1-1 in the conference. The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game as Greg DeBeer's single scored Matt Kleine. Centre tied the game in the bottom of the first on a DePauw fielding error. DePauw took a 2-1 lead in the second as Adrian Norris' ground out plated Kyle Dobbs. In the third, Eric Moore's fielder's choice scored Michael Pangallo to tie the contest at 2-2. The Colonels scored the game winner in the fifth when Ben Jeffers reached on an error that scored Kevin McGee. P.J. Mitchell dropped to 3-3 on the season despite allowing just five hits and no earned runs in six innnings. John Herbert improved to 3-1 by allowing just two unearned runs. DeBeer and Jeremy Dickinson each had two hits for the Tigers, while Pangallo finished with a pair for the Colonels. The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the nightcap as DeBeer drew a bases loaded walk and Norris hit into a run-scoring fielder's choice. DePauw added two more in the third on Norris' two-run single before Chris Newman scored on a wild pitch in the eighth. John Kihlken improved to 3-1 with the nine-inning shutout as he allowed just five hits. Kennedy dropped to 0-2 for the Colonels. Zach Harris led DePauw with two hits, while Moore had two for Centre. The teams meet on Sunday in another twinbill. Back
