Hertel earns all-America honors; plays in today's Aztec Bowl

December 16, 2006, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw senior defensive end Dustin Hertel has been selected to the D3football.com all-America honorable mention team. The team was announced this afternoon prior to the NCAA Division III Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
DePauw's fourth Aztec Bowl invitee, Hertel will compete for the USA Division III All-Star team this evening in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and is joined by former head coach Nick Mourouzis who is an assistant coach for the USA. Hertel earned D3football.com South Region first team honors after being selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
He led the 6-4 Tigers and the SCAC with a school and conference-record 27.5 tackles for losses totaling 155 yards, a school-record and conference record-tying 16 sacks and five forced fumbles.
Hertel was second on the team with 85 total tackles, recovered three fumbles and intercepted a pass that he returned for a touchdown. A first team all-SCAC selection in 2004 and a second team choice last year, Hertel was the first DePauw player to earn Defensive Player of the Year honors in the Tigers' nine years of SCAC play.
