Tigers advance to NCAA third round with win over Transylvania

May 5, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - Eighth-ranked DePauw University improved to 21-4 and advanced to the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championship third round following a 9-0 second-round win over Transylvania University. The Pioneers ended their season at 16-5. In Sunday's noon third-round match, DePauw takes 12th-ranked Whitman which defeated Albion, 8-1.
The Tigers took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles as Evan Webeler and Scott Swanson defeated Parker Gregory and Josh Niehaus by an 8-4 score and Kortney Keith and Jeff Zanchelli beat Lee Gammon and Kyle Clayton by an 8-3 count. At number three doubles Bryan Heck and Scott Sandager topped Trevor Scott and John Pfingston by an 8-1 count.
Heck blanked Clayton at number four singles 6-0, 6-0 and Swanson clinched the victory for the Tigers at the number three spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Niehaus.
Webeler then beat Gregory by a 6-3, 6-3 score at number one and Scott Sauer topped Dalton Main by a 6-2, 6-0 score at number six. Keith defeated Gammon by a 6-1, 6-3 score at number two and the match concluded at number five with Sandager taking a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Scott.
