Tigers Suffer First Loss in SCAC Opener

December 1, 2007, Danville, Ky. - DePauw dropped to 4-1 on the season following a 78-64 loss at Centre in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams. The Colonels improved to 3-1 with the victory.
The Tigers scored the first five points of the game, but Centre scored the next seven and never trailed from that point forward. The Colonels extended the first-half advantage to as many as 11 at 34-23 after Chris Gowers buried a three with 5:02 left.
DePauw put together a 9-2 run to close the gap to four, but Thomas Britt and Matt Nestheide each nailed threes in the closing 1:25 of the half to push the halftime advantage to 42-32.
Stephen Schott scored the first six points of the second half to trim Centre's lead to 42-38, but the Colonels scored eight straight at the beginning of a 25-10 stretch which extended the lead to 19. DePauw got no closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Steve Lemasters paced DePauw with a game-high 17 and knocked down four three-pointers. Schott followed with 13 and Mike Moore added 12 and five assists. Schott and Brian Oilar each had five rebounds.
Britt paced Centre with 16 points with T.C. Thomason adding 15 and Nestheide chipping in 14.
DePauw shot 47.9 percent from the floor, but the Colonels connected on 54.2 percent. The Tigers held a 29-26 edge on the boards, but committed 24 turnovers in the loss.
The Tigers travel to Wabash on Thursday, December 6, for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
