Tigers Sweep SCAC Player of the Week Honors

gill_rachel_042807.jpgFebruary 27, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - Following a 2-1 season-opening weekend, the Tigers swept Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week honors.

Junior catcher Rachel Gill was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore pitcher Megan Soultz was the Pitcher of the Week.

Gill hit .545 for the week with at least one hit in all three games. In Saturday's 2-1 win against 13th-ranked Emory, she singled in the first run of the game in the eighth inning and later scored what proved to be the winning run in that same inning. She also drove in the winning run in Sunday's 8-0 win over Piedmont. For the week, Gill drove in four runs on six hits and also scored twice. 

megansoultz042807.jpgSoultz, a third-team all-America selection as a freshman, opened season with 2-1 record. She allowed three earned runs in the first three innings of the season against 13th-ranked Emory and then did not allow another over the remaining 18 frames.

For the week, Soultz pitched 21.0 innings, allowing just the three earned runs (five total) with 14 strikeouts and six walks.

DePauw travels to Danville, Ky., this weekend to participate in the March Mayhem Tournament hosted by Centre.
