Soultz Named to ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team

soultz.jpgMay 27, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw sophomore pitcher Megan Soultz has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Softball Academic All-District Five Second Team.

A biology major with a 3.76 cumulative grade point average at the time of selection, Soultz was a first team all-America choice and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year after posting a 36-4 record with a 0.98 earned run average.

Her 36 wins led Division III and she struck out a DePauw and SCAC-record 260 batters in a record 265 1/3 innings. Soultz walked just 44 and opposing hitters batted just .180 against her. She also established school and conference records for shutouts (15), games and games started (44) and complete games (33). Her career 0.96 ERA also is tops in DePauw history as are her 55 wins, 24 shutouts and 418 strikeouts.

Soultz's 44 starts this season tied for third in Division III history, while her 36 wins rank fifth. Her 15 shutouts are tied for 10th and her 44 games are tied for sixth. 

The Academic All-District team is part of the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America program and the team is selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  Nominees must have a minimum 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key reserve.

The Tigers finished the season with a school record 40 wins and just four losses, won their first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship and advanced to the NCAA Division III first round championship game. DePauw also earned its first number-one ranking in the NFCA poll and maintained it for the final three weeks of the regular season.
