Tigers Earn NCAA At-Large Berth; Make Sixth Straight Tourney Appearance

08NCAAcolorsaturnlogo250.jpgMarch 2, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Following a 22-5 regular season, DePauw has earned a spot in the 63-team field of the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship.

The Tigers open play on Friday, March 6, when they face 23-5 Wisconsin-Eau Claire in first-round action at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill.

Tipoff from the Shirk Center is set for 6 p.m. CST. The game will mark the first meeting between the two schools. Friday's other first-round matchup has 27-0 Illinois Wesleyan hosting 17-11 Ohio Wesleyan at 8 p.m. CST. The winners meet Saturday evening at 7 p.m. CST.

Tickets, which are $7 for adults and $4 for students & senior citizens, will be available at the gate.

DePauw earned an at-large bid after being eliminated by Trinity in Saturday's Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference semifinals by a 98-80 score.

The Blugolds earned an at-large bid as well after falling in Saturday's Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title game to Wisconsin-Stevens Point by a 46-42 score.

The appearance is DePauw's sixth straight and 10th in the last 14 years. The Tigers have advanced to the national quarterfinals each of the last three seasons and claimed the 2007 Division III national title with a 55-52 win over Washington-St. Louis.
