Soultz Named SCAC Co-Pitcher of the Week

soultz.jpgMarch 24, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — Following a 4-0 weekend, DePauw junior pitcher has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Co-Pitcher of the Week for games from March 16-22. She shared the honor with Southwestern's Kaitlyn Pavlicek.

In 23 innings, Soultz allowed just four earned runs on 19 hits and posted a 1.22 earned run average. She struck out 11 batters in the four wins over Millsaps and, in Saturday's second game, broke the SCAC career strikeout record of 463 held by Trinity's Erin Mulvey (2005-07).

scac-softball.jpgThe honor was the second of the year for Soultz who also earned the distinction after the first weekend of play. It also marked the ninth time in her career she's been named the pitcher of the week.

The 10-4 Tigers, ranked fourth in the most recent Division III Softball - The Newsletter rankings and 16th in the NFCA Coaches' Poll, travel to second-ranked Louisiana College for a 4 p.m. CDT doubleheader on Thursday.
