DePauw Advances to Hasbrook Title Game with Win over Northland

2009hasbrooklogo.jpgDecember 29, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. —  Host DePauw ended the first half with a 10-2 run and started the second with a 19-1 stretch on the way to a 66-45 win over Northland in the second game of the Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament.

The Tigers improved to 7-3 with their 41st straight home win and 58th consecutive in the regular season, while the Lumberjills dropped to 6-3 on the season.

DePauw faces Saint Mary's (Ind.) in tomorrow's 4 p.m. championship game, while Northland takes on Maryville (Tenn.) in the 2 p.m. game for third place. Saint Mary's topped Maryville by a 74-64 score in tonight's opening game.

The teams battled through a first half of five ties and eight lead changes with the last tie coming at 25-25 on Sara Hoge's bucket with 3:34 left. DePauw scored eight straight to take the lead for good as it went to the intermission with a 35-27 lead on Kate Walker's buzzer-beater.

Brooke Osborne and Lauren Goff opened the second half with threes and Osborne followed with a layup to push the lead to 43-27. The Lumberjills countered with a free throw before the Tigers scored 11 straight to extend the lead to 54-28 with 11:06 left.

Hoge hit Northland's first field goal of the second half at the 10:04 mark which snapped a stretch of 13:30 without a bucket.

Osborne was DePauw's lone double-figure scorer with 11 points as 12 different Tigers scored. Emily Marshall added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds as the Tigers held a 46-21 edge on the boards.

Maria Mackey led Northland with 11 points and Chelsea Lundgren grabbed seven rebounds.
