Voris Tosses Second Shutout of Tournament in Leading Washington to Win over North Central

Voris_Claire_NCAAGame-9.jpgMay 15, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. —  Washington University pitcher Claire Voris tossed her second shutout in as many days and led her Bears to a 5-0 win over North Central in an elimination game of the Greencastle, Indiana Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.

Washington improved 36-10 and advanced in the loser's bracket to face the winner of the Transylvania-Trine game at 4 p.m. this afternoon. The Cardinals finished their season at 32-14.

The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Megan Fieser led off with a walk and stole second. She scored when Ashley Janssen singled up the middle.

They made it 2-0 in the second when Ally Berenter homered over the bleachers in left center and extended it on Ashley Janssen's solo shot to center in the third.

In the sixth, Ally Berenter reached on a two-base outfield error and pinch-runner Kathy Peter advanced to third on Carter Malouf's single. Peter scored on an error on an attempted steal. The final run came home when pinch-runner Rebecca Saisbury scored on Megan Fieser's ground out.

Janssen and Alyssa Abramoski paced the Bears with two hits apiece as Washington totaled six hits. Three different Cardinals had one hit each.

Voris improved to 20-6 with the three-hitter, while Lyndsey Payne dropped to 13-5.
