Three Tigers Begin NCAA Tennis Competition on Friday

May 27, 2010, Fredericksburg, Va. — Three DePauw student-athletes begin competition on Friday at the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles Championships at Mary Washington College. Complete details are available at the official site.
Junior Janelle Arita (pictured) earned a spot in the 32-player singles championship and opens play on Friday, May 28, against Courtney Chin of Carnegie Mellon. Arita posted a 17-6 singles mark this season and is 66-25 in her career.
Seniors Kayla Smith and Greer Mackie open play in the 16-team doubles championship on Friday when they take on second-seeded Lorne McManigle and Zahra Dawson of Emory.
Smith and Mackie are 23-6 this season and have won their last seven matches. The Tigers' tandem lost to the Emory doubles team by an 8-3 score on March 20 in the only meeting of the year.
