Four Tigers Earn All-Region Softball Honors

Soultz_megan_2010sbaction.jpgMay 13, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. —  After leading the Tigers to a fourth straight NCAA Division III tournament appearance, four DePauw students have earned All-Central Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Senior pitcher Megan Soultz (right) enters NCAA regional play with a 24-4 record including a 1.38 earned run average. She's totaled 174 strikeouts in 193 innings and allowed just 142 hits and 44 walks. Opposing hitters are batting just .207 against her. The all-region honor is Soultz's fourth in four years.

Three Tigers were named to the second team including junior first baseman Ashlee Anton, sophomore third baseman Jen Kosinski and freshman catcher Amy Hallett

Anton, a third team all-region selection in 2008, is hitting .378 with eight doubles and 18 runs batted in. She has committed just one error in 251 chances for a .996 fielding percentage.

Kosinski was a first team all-region choice and an all-America selection last year as a designated player and is leading the Tigers with a .434 batting average this year. She also leads the way with 42 runs, 53 hits, 45 RBI and is second with six homers.

Hallett is batting .385 with a team-high and DePauw single-season record eight homers. She shares the team lead with 10 doubles and is second with 42 RBI and a .662 slugging percentage. She's thrown out six of 17 opposing runners attempting to steal and picked off another four.

DePauw is 35-6 on the season and playing host to one of eight NCAA Division III regionals. Complete regional information is available here.
