Mount St. Joseph Tops Tigers

March 1, 2011, Cincinnati, Ohio — DePauw outhit Mount St. Joseph ,7-6, but the Lions came out on top by a 7-3 score at Marge Schott Stadium at the University of Cincinnati. DePauw dropped to 2-4 with the loss, while Mount St. Joseph improved to 2-1.
Mount St. Joseph took a 1-0 lead in the first as Josh Denny doubled home Trace Norton, but DePauw took the lead in the second with a pair of runs. Jason Cohen led off with a double, while Alex Wright drove him in with a single. Alex Berlyn later drove home Wright with a sacrifice fly.
The Lions regained the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the third before sealing the win with four in the sixth. DePauw's final run came in the ninth when Gardner's bases loaded walk scored Brandon Dountz.
Cohen and Zach Galyean each had two of the Tigers' seven hits, while Justin Shelton had two for Mount St. Joseph and drove in three.
Mike Peterson dropped to 0-2 after allowing just one unearned run in five innings, but walking six. Korey Eads improved to 1-0 after pitching 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.
DePauw returns to action on Friday with a doubleheader against Manchester at Athletes in Action Field in Xenia, Ohio.Back
