#19 DePauw Sweeps Doubleheader with Centre

April 16, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — The 19th-ranked Tigers scored 13 runs over the last three innings to capture a 16-8 victory over visiting Centre College in the second game of their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader and complete the sweep.
DePauw claimed a 10-2 victory in the opener and improved to 21-7-1 on the year and 8-4 in SCAC play. With the losses, Centre dropped to 13-19 overall and 5-9 in conference action.
In the first game, Centre jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Mary Saylor's RBI double. Defensive miscues by Centre in the bottom of the inning allowed DePauw to take a 3-1 lead. DePauw added two more runs in the second as Jen Kosinski plated two with a double to right centerfield.
Centre added another run in the top of the third, but DePauw would answer with three more in its half of the inning. Amy Hallett led off with a double, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Holly Paris. Kosinski then knocked in two more runs with her second double of the game, bringing the score to 8-2. DePauw added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to claim the 10-2 victory.
DePauw tallied 11 hits in the win, led by Rachel MacBeth with three. Kosinski, Haley Buchanan and Cymone Allen recorded two hits each. Centre totaled four hits in the contest and was led offensively by Saylor, who totaled two RBI.
Emily Bichler earned the win for DePauw, improving to 18-7 on the year. Bichler gave up just two earned runs and four hits in five innings of work. Centre’s Emily Meador dropped to 8-10 with the loss.
Centre took an early lead in game two, posting a 5-0 advantage before DePauw responded with three runs in the bottom of the third. Emma Minx put the Tigers on the board with a solo home run, followed by back-to-back singles by Ashlee Anton and Paris. Both scored on a double by Jamie Story to cut Centre’s lead to 5-3.
As the rain and wind picked up on the field, Centre scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth. However, DePauw capitalized on defensive errors to score seven runs in their half of the inning. Minx also knocked her second home run of the day, a two-run shot to left centerfield, as DePauw took a 10-7 advantage heading into the fifth inning.
Centre's Ashley Christian hit a solo homer in the fifth, cutting DePauw’s lead to 10-8, however, Centre was unable to score in the top of the sixth.
Paris led off the bottom of the sixth for DePauw with a double for her third hit of the game. After Paris moved to third on a passed ball, Story reached after being hit by a pitch. Allen followed with an RBI single to the right side and Brianne Weeks reached base on a single to left. Both runners advanced on an error by the second baseman, and scored on a single by Minx. DePauw then plated a couple of unearned runs on another error to seal the 16-8 win.
DePauw totaled 15 hits in the victory, including a 4-for-5 performance by Minx. Paris also added three hits. Christian and Chelsea Collard led Centre with six of the team’s 12 hits.
Bichler earned the win for DePauw after relieving Megan Landahl in the second inning. She is now 19-7 on the season. Meanwhile, Emily Landherr took the loss for Centre, falling to 4-9.
DePauw hosts Centre on Sunday, April 17, in a doubleheader beginning at Noon.
