MacBeth Earns First Team Academic All-America® Honors

97375May 26, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — Rachel MacBeth, a junior softball outfielder from Indianapolis, has been selected to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A biochemistry major and religious studies minor, MacBeth has a 3.96 cumulative grade point average through her first five semesters. She is DePauw's 43rd Academic All-America® selection and its first in softball.

The starting left fielder for the Tigers in all 44 games, MacBeth led the team with a .443 batting average and set DePauw single-season records for at-bats (167) and hits (74). 

cosidanewlogo.jpgA second team National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Central Region selection, MacBeth also earned first team all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors this season.

MacBeth helped the Tigers to a 32-11-1 record, an NCAA Division III regional title and a tie for fifth place at the NCAA Division III Championship. In her three seasons, she's been part of DePauw teams with a 104-29-1 record including two fifth-place national finishes, two regional titles and one runner-up finish as well as two SCAC championships.

98033To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
