DePauw Drops 2-0 Decision in NCAC Field Hockey Title Contest

79705November 5, 2011, Granville, Ohio — Host Denison scored once in each half and blanked DePauw, 2-0, in the North Coast Athletic Conference Field Hockey Championship game.

The 20th-ranked Big Red improved to 18-1 and earned the NCAC's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship. The Tigers slipped to 16-3 and will await word on a possible at-large berth into the national tournament.

Tara Pesman's first goal of the season came at 12:53 on a double assist from Molly Chapman and Taylor Bacon and gave Denison a 1-0 lead.

That stood until Catie Merrick made it 2-0 with 6:35 remaining in the contest on Champman's assist.

DePauw held a 14-9 edge in shots, while Denison led, 8-7, in corners.

Maggie Steele totaled five saves for DePauw with Denison's Brittany Benson turning away seven shots.

DePauw placed three players on the all-tournament team including Margaret Ellis, Chelsea Cutler and Paige Henry.
