Tigers sweep doubleheader with Centre

April 6, 2007, Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw improved to 17-11 overall and 7-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a doublehader sweep of visiting Centre. The Tigers won the first game, 2-1, in eight innings and took the nightcap, 4-1. Centre dropped to 11-16 overall and 4-6 in the SCAC.
Adam Ford's fielder's choice grounder in the bottom of the eighth of the first game scored Chris Newman from third with the game-winning run. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Newman led off with a bunt single, while Matt Kleine followed with a single to center and Adam Ford added a bunt single. Newman then scored on Jack Gavin's sacrifice fly. Centre tied the contest in the sixth on Eric Moore's double that scored Jeffrey Williams.
Jeremy Alland improved to 4-1 with the five-hitter as he allowed just one unearned run with 10 strikeouts and one walk. John Herbert dropped to 3-5 with the loss. The Tigers totaled seven hits led by Newman and Kleine with two apiece. Williams paced the Colonels with five.
In the nightcap, John Tschantz pitched a three-hitter in improving to 4-0 on the season, while Centre starter Lance Sizemore dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
DePauw jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on Kleine's RBI single that scored Newman. Centre tied it in the second on Brandon Rosen's run-scoring single up the middle.
In the fourth, Drew Holy's two-out single to center scored Ford and Holy later scored on a double steal with Taylor Hoffman. The Tigers added one in the fifth on Ford's infield single which scored Newman.
Holy had two of DePauw's six hits, while three different Centre players had one hit each.
The two teams square off in a 1 p.m. twinbill on Saturday.Back
