April 20, 2008
April 20, 2008, Milington, Tenn. - Senior pitcher Aaron Meyers tossed a six-hit shutout as 14th-ranked DePauw defeated Austin, 6-0, and won the best-of-three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross-Divisional series with the Kangaroos.
The Tigers picked up their school-record 30th win and improved to 30-9, while Austin dropped to 18-24. The previous school record of 29 wins came in 2005.
With the series win, DePauw advances to the SCAC Tournament in Danville, Ky., where they'll open play on Friday.
DePauw wasted little time in getting on the board as it plated four runs in the first. Taylor Hoffman drew a one-out walk and moved to third on Matt Kleine's double.
Mike Stout then reached on an error which allowed Hoffman to score before Adam Ford delivered a sacrifice fly that scored Kleine. Jon Newman followed with a double and Jack Gavin drove in a pair with a triple. Gavin's third-inning groundout scored Stout and his fifth-inning single scored Stout.
Newman, Gavin and Eric Reese each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Gavin drove in four and Stout scored three. Six different Austin players collected one single apiece as only one Austin runner reached third base.
Meyers improved to 6-1 after scattering six singles in nine innings with three strikeouts and just one walk. Bobby Schleizer suffered the loss and dropped to 2-3.
