Tigers Split Twinbill with Illinois Wesleyan

March 6, 2009, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw moved to 5-3 on the season following a doubleheader split with 16th-ranked Illinois Wesleyan at Walker Field. The Tigers won the first game 8-2 and dropped the nightcap, 22-8. The games were the first this spring for the Titans.
In the opener, Illinois Wesleyan jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Tigers took the lead for good with four runs each in the third and fourth innings.
DePauw collected nine hits with Justin Weiner and Rob McPike each collecting two. Kraig Ladd led the Titans with three of their five hits. DePauw's Sam Linette hit a solo homer to lead off the fourth. Brad Gerlach allowed just three hits in six innings to improve to 3-0, while Geoff Page dropped to 0-1.
The Tigers took a 6-1 lead into the third with four runs in the first and two in the second, but Illinois Wesleyan countered with four in the third and eight in the fourth to take control.
Kevin Goshorn collected four hits and drove in four for the Titans, while Tom Marzec, Brett Moore and Casey McIntosh each had three of their 22 hits. McPike, Drew Holy and Chris Schenk had two hits apiece for DePauw. Aaron Henry hit a leadoff homer in the seventh.
Joe Froelich picked up the win and moved to 1-0 after allowing just one earned run in five innings of relief work. Brian fisher dropped to 0-1 with the loss.
DePauw hosts Hanover at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, while Illinois Wesleyan takes on Hanover at 3 p.m. The Tigers wrap up the weekend with a Sunday single-game at Noon with Illinois Wesleyan.Back
