DePauw Wins Ninth SCAC Women's Basketball Title; Headed to NCAA Postseason for Seventh Straight Year

February 28, 2010, Jackson, Miss. — DePauw picked up its 21st straight win and its ninth Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball title in 12 years after a 63-37 win over Centre in the conference tournament championship game.
The Tigers improved to 25-3 overall and head to the NCAA postseason for the seventh straight season and 11th in the last 15 years. Centre finished its season at 19-8. The NCAA bracket announcement will come at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
DePauw scored eight straight in an early first half run to take a 16-6 lead just 6:29 into the game. The Colonels were within six at 18-12, but the Tigers scored 13 straight to make it 31-12. Centre closed the gap to 33-24 at halftime.
Holding Centre to just 13 second-half points and only 16.7 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes, the Tigers were able to pull away. They used a 13-4 run to turn an 11-point lead to 20.
Emily Marshall led the Tigers with a double-double of 13 points and 15 rebounds, while Brook Osborne added 12 on four three-pointers and dished out five assists. Kate Walker followed with 11 points and Jenna Fernandez had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Chelsea Goodman paced Centre with 11 points, while Lauren Huter and Angela Tronzi each had six rebounds.
The Tigers shot just under 41 percent form the floor, but hit 9-of-17 three-pointers. Centre hit just 21.7 percent for the contest. DePauw outrebounded Centre, 48-29, and grabbed 15 on the offensive glass.
Fernandez was named the tournament MVP, while Osborne and Marshall joined her on the all-tournament team.
