Tigers Drop Third Game of SCAC Series at Oglethorpe

March 28, 2010, Atlanta, Ga. — Host Oglethorpe scored two each in the seventh and eighth innings and sent DePauw to a 6-3 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference loss. The Tigers are 12-10 overall and 2-4 in SCAC play while the Stormy Petrels improved to 12-13 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the third when Ben Gardner led off with a single, moved to second on Alex Jacques bunt and to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a wild pitch.
The Stormy Petrels knotted the score at 1-1 in the third as Matthew Cornwell hit a one-out double and scored on J.J. Rizzo's triple to right. Oglethorpe took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Adam Brazenas led off with a double, moved to third on Stephen Archer's single and scored when Nick Manai reached on a fielder's choice.
Alex Berlyn and Gardner hit back-to-back, two-out solo homers in the seventh to give DePauw a 3-2 lead. Rizzo and Andy Farrey led off the Oglethorpe seventh with singles and advanced when Archer grounded out. Rizzo scored on a wild pitch before Manai delivered an infield single which plated Farrey and gave the Stormy Petrels a 4-3 lead.
DePauw loaded the bases in the eighth, but hit into an inning-ending double play. The Stormy Petrels added two more in the eighth on Farrey's two-run single.
Jon Newman paced the Tigers with three of their nine hits, while Berlyn added two. Cornwell, Rizzo, Farrey, Brazenas, Manai and Panrillo each had two of Oglethorpe's 13 hits. Brad Gerlach dropped to 1-2 with the loss, while Mark Hobban picked up the win.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, March 31., at Walker Field against Wabash. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
