Ross Shuts Out Colonels as Tigers Take Centre Series

April 18, 2010, Danville, Ky. — DePauw sophomore pitcher Elliott Ross allowed just five singles and didn't walk a batter, while the offense pounded out 16 hits in a 10-0 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Centre.
The Tigers improved to 21-15 overall and finished SCAC play at 9-6, while the Colonels dropped to 10-20 overall and 5-10 in the SCAC. With the win, DePauw wrapped up the top seed from the SCAC's East Division for the upcoming conference tournament.
DePauw jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first as Rob McPike drove in Ben Gardner with a single and Taylor Hoffman scored when Jason Cohen hit into a double play. Alex Wright singled, scoring Jon Newman who had earlier doubled.
Hoffman's single in the second scored Berlyn and made it 4-0 before McPike hit a solo homer in the fifth. Also in the fifth, Sam Linette singled home Wright.
DePauw added three more in the sixth on Cohen's three-run homer and the Tigers' final run came in the seventh when Gardner singled home Berlyn.
All nine DePauw batters had at least one hit with Wright leading with three. Gardner, McPike, Cohen, Linette and Berlyn had two apiece. Steven Proctor collected two of Centre's five hits.
Ross improved to 8-1 with his eighth straight win, while Andy Hagerman dropped to 0-6.
The Tigers open SCAC Tournament play on Thursday, April 22, when they face Austin College at 7 p.m. The tournament takes place at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. SCAC TOURNAMENT SITE
