Tigers Pound out 17 Hits in 10-3 Win over Manchester

March 12, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw scored seven runs in the bottom of the third and defeated visiting Manchester by a 10-3 score at Walker Field. The Tigers improved to 6-5 with the win, while the Spartans dropped to 2-2.
Manchester took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as John Smolinski's ground out scored Trey Forbes who led off the inning with a double.
The Tigers sent 12 batters to the plate in the bottom half of the frame and scored all seven runs with two out. Rob McPike reached on a bunt single and scored on Alex Wright's double. Zach Galyean followed with a double and Alex Berlyin with a run-scoring single to make it 3-1.
Robbie Stein's double scored Berlyn and Chris Forbringer plated Stein with a single. Ben Gardner followed with a single before Sam Swafford singled home two.
Manchester's Jay Sheets led off the fourth with a solo homer, but the Tigers countered in the fifth as Gardner's single scored Berlyn and gave DePauw an 8-2 lead. Stein's sixth-inning single brought home Galyean and Wright drove in Swafford in the seventh with a single.
Manchester added one more in the eighth as Smolinski scored from third on a double play ground out.
The Tigers totaled 17 hits led by Stein's three. Gardner, Swafford, Wright, Galyean, Berlyn and Forbringer had two apiece. Forbes had two of the Spartans' seven hits.
Hobs Donovan improved to 2-1 after allowing two earned runs in eight innings, while Justin Scott dropped to 2-1.
The Tigers host Alma later this afternoon.
