Two-time Defending Champ Bears Too Much for Tigers
ST. LOUIS, MO. — The Tigers battled Washington University for a half but, like last year, the Bears dismantled DePauw in the second half on the way to a 65-43 win in the championship game of the Washington Tipoff Tournament.
The first half included five ties before the Bears put together a late run to go to the intermission with a 29-23 lead. Washington then scored seven straight to open the second half and push the lead to 36-23. That advantage reached a high of 26 points at 57-31 midway through the period.
Kim Weigle, Sarah MacKay and Katie Imborek each scored nine for the Tigers and Amy Hasbrook led with seven rebounds. Division III Player of the Year Alia Fischer led the Bears with 21 points along with eight rebounds. Tasha Rodgers added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The win was the 40th straight for the two-time defending Division III champions and snapped the Tigers' 17-game regular season win streak.
DePauw hosts Thomas More College at 7 p.m. on November 30.
