Tigers fall to Quakers, 62-61
November 24, 2001
Maryville, Tenn. - Wilmington's Tara Rausch hit one of two free throws with just 2.4 seconds left to lift the Quakers to a 62-61 victory over the Tigers in the first game of the 2001 Kiwanis Classic hosted by Maryville (Tenn.) College.
DePauw, 1-2, led by as many as seven points in the first half after shooting 50 percent from the field, but failed to score over a nearly 10-minute stretch that covered the end of the first half and the beginning of the second.
Wilmington's (3-0) 18-0 run over two halves gave the Quakers their biggest margin at 47-34 with 14 minutes left in the game. The Tigers methodically battled all the way back to finally tie the contest at 61-61 on Amy Argetsinger's three-pointer with just over one minute to play.
Argetsinger led all scorers with 16 points followed by Sarah MacKay with 14 and Kim Weigle with 12. Megan Woodruff was the lone double-figure scorer for the Quakers with 15.
DePauw takes on Rust College in the consolation game at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Rust lost to Maryville by an 83-61 score.
