19th-ranked Tigers advance to SCAC championship with 72-38 win
Memphis, Tenn. (2-28-03) - DePauw advanced to the championship game of the inaugural Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship with a 72-38 win over Hendrix.
DePauw improved to 22-4 on the season and will face regular season champion Trinity in Saturday's championship game. Trinity advanced to the finals with a 67-35 win over Centre. Tipoff for the title clash is slated for 6 p.m. EST.
The Tigers trailed just once, at 2-0, and used an early 17-0 run to extend an eight-point lead to 22 at 28-6 with 8:28 left in the first half. That margin reached as many as 30 in the first half before DePauw went to the break with a 43-16 lead. DePauw pushed the lead to as many as 35 in the second half.
Sarah Zondor paced the Tigers with 14 points, while Colleen Powers added 10. In all, 12 DePauw players reached the scorebook. Erin McKenzie paced the Warriors with 16 points and eight rebounds.
The win lifted the five DePauw seniors' four-year record to 87-19 which tied the classes of 2000 and 2002 for the most victories in a four-year span.
