Mary Smith begins her 21st season as assistant women’s basketball coach at DePauw and 15th as a full-time assistant. Her primary responsibilities include working with the post players.
The Eau Claire, Wis., native earned four varsity letters in basketball at Western Illinois University after a stellar high school career. Smith earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology at WIU. She then earned a master’s degree in physical education from the University of Northern Iowa where she also served as a graduate assistant coach for the women’s basketball team.
Since coming to DePauw she has also earned a master’s degree in sport management from Indiana State University. During her first two years, she was an assistant volleyball coach and the Tigers captured their first-ever Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference championship in her second season.
Smith has spearheaded successful charity fundraising drives for the basketball team that have raised over $100,000 for various charitable organizations.
