Tigers host NCAA first-round game on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

ncaawbb2004.jpgGreencastle, Ind. - The 25-3 DePauw women's basketball team opens NCAA Division III Championship play on Wednesday, March 3, when it hosts Aurora (Ill.) University. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST at the Neal Fieldhouse.

 

General admission tickets, which are $4 for adults and $3 for senior citizens, students and children (over 5 years old) will be available at the gate. The DePauw athletic department will cover the admission cost for DePauw students but they must show their valid DePauw ID at the gate. Doors open at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The winner of the first-round game travels to Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky., for a 7 p.m. contest on Saturday.

 

The Tigers earned automatic qualification into the 50-team tournament by winning the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament on Sunday with a 62-57 victory over third-ranked Trinity. DePauw is making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship with the last coming in 2002 when the Tigers finished third. The Tigers have compiled a 6-4 record in tournament play. Winners of 15 straight, DePauw is currently ranked eighth in the latest USA Today/ESPN/WBCA poll and ninth by D3hoops.com. 

 

Aurora earned a spot in the tournament field by winning the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference tournament with a 62-53 win over Benedictine on Saturday. The Spartans, 11-17 on the season, are making their fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament with an all-time record of 3-3. Aurora has won its last five games and 10 of its last 14. Nine of the Spartans' last 12 losses have been by six or fewer points.
