DePauw begins defense of SCAC women's title; WGRE to provide extensive coverage

February 24, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women's basketball team opens defense of its Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title when it squares off with Southwestern University on Friday, February 25. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. CST (7 p.m. in Greencastle) at the Mallory Gymnasium at Rhodes College.
DePauw student-operated radio station, WGRE, will provide unprecedented coverage of the third annual conference tournament. Brian Gustin, Wes Anderson, Matt Barwise and Dan Lucero will provide Webcasts of 13 of the 14 men's and women's games. DePauw (21-4, 12-2 SCAC) enters the tournament as the number-one seed, while Southwestern (9-16, 5-9) is the eighth-seed. The Tigers swept both games from the Pirates during the regular season including an 81-58 decision in Texas on January 16 and an 88-37 contest in Greencastle last Sunday.
Friday's action tips off with second seed Trinity taking on Millsaps at 1 p.m. CST and third-seed Sewanee facing sixth-seed Rose-Hulman at 3 p.m. CST.
The bottom half of the bracket tips off at 6 p.m. CST with DePauw and Southwestern competing and the quarterfinals conclude with fourth-seed Rhodes facing fifth-seed Hendrix.
The semifinals at Rhodes College are scheduled for Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. CST and the championship game slated for Noon CST on Sunday also at Rhodes. The tournament winner earns automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship which begins Wednesday, March 2.
