Fernandez Named SCAC Player of the Week

fernandez031707.jpgJanuary 29, 2008, Greencastle, Ind. -Sophomore forward Jenna Fernandez was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her performance in last weekend's wins.  The honor was her second of the season as she shared the distinction in week four.

Fernandez averaged 24.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game as the 15th-ranked Tigers defeated both Hendrix and Millsaps in SCAC play over the weekend. She shot 67.7 percent (21-31) from the field in the two contests.

She scored 21 points on 10-of-15 shooting with two assists in the 78-70 victory over Hendrix and followed that performance with her first career double-double with 28 points and 12 rebounds in Sunday's 78-60 win over Millsaps.

For the season, Fernandez averages 14.4 points (10th in the SCAC) and 6.2 rebounds per game (tied for 15th). She is fourth in the league in field goal percentage (56.9%).

DePauw returns to SCAC action on Friday when it travels to Southwestern for a 6 p.m. CST game.
