DePauw Evens Mark at 1-1 with Win over Central

Marshall_Emily_200809wbb.jpgNovember 21, 2009, Bloomington, Ill. —  Seventh-ranked DePauw jumped out to a 23-8 lead and never relinquished it in an 86-61 victory over Central in the Illinois Wesleyan Tipoff Tournament third-place game.

DePauw improved to 1-1 with the win and travels to Anderson on Tuesday. Central dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

The Tigers led by as many as 23 in the opening 20 minutes before heading to the intermission with a 49-34 halftime lead. DePauw opened the second half with a 7-0 run and eventually stretched the lead to as many as 28 points.

Emily Marshall (left) led DePauw with a career-high 20 points, while Kate Walker added 11 and Katie Mathews scored 10. Jordan Waddell led Central with 11 and Sarah Paulson followed with 10.

DePauw held a 51-33 edge on the boards as Ellie Pearson grabbed 12. Melaine Hopkins paced Central with seven boards. Walker dished out six assists in the win.
