Tigers Aim for 18th Straight Win in Regular Season Home Finale

February 21, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw, ranked 16th in the latest USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll and 17th by D3hoops.com, hosts Birmingham-Southern today in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. Tipoff from the Neal Fieldhouse is set for Noon.
The Tigers are 21-3 overall, 14-1 in the SCAC and on a 17-game win streak after Friday's 64-44 win over Oglethorpe. DePauw entered the week as the nation’s leader in rebound margin (+16.1), ranked sixth in fewest turnovers per game (14.3) and seventh in scoring margin (+20.6).
DePauw has wrapped up the top seed in the SCAC Eastern Division for next weekend’s SCAC Tournament and clinched their ninth straight 20-win season and 13th in the last 14 years. The Tigers enter the game with a 48-game home win streak and a 65-game string during the regular season (excluding NCAA postseason). The Tigers have won 53 straight SCAC home contests.
Birmingham-Southern is 13-11 overall and 7-8 in the SCAC after Friday’s 73-54 loss at Centre. Birmingham-Southern won December 6 meeting between the two schools by a 74-66 score in what was DePauw's last loss.
DePauw will also recognize four seniors (pictured above Emily Marshall, Danielle Boraz, Jenna Fernandez and Kristin Barrow) who are playing their final regular season home game. In four years, they've compiled a 102-16 record which ranks third in Division III for wins during that time. They also are 52-5 in SCAC games and have won all 48 home games. The won the school's first national championship in 2007 and advanced to the national quarterfinals in 2008 in addition to winning two SCAC titles.
The weekend games are also part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's (WBCA) Pink Zone breast cancer awareness initiative. In addition to wearing pink to the games in support of the initiative, fans can donate at the gate each day.
DePauw was the Division III winner of the 2009 Russell Athletic and Jostens WBCA Pink Zone™ Challenge. As last year’s top fundraisers in Division III for the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, the Tigers received complimentary pink uniforms for this weekend’s games provided by Russell Athletic.
