Baker, Attewell Earn Academic All-District Honors

May 20, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Catie Baker, a sophomore on the women's swimming and diving team and Liz Attewell, a junior on the field hockey squad, were named to the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-District V Women's At-Large Team. The teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Baker (left) is a computer science major with a 4.00 cumulative grade point average through this year's first semester and was voted to the first team. With her first team selection, Baker's name will be placed on the national ballot which determines the Academic All-America teams.
She was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Female Swimmer of the Year after setting a DePauw single-season record with 615.75 total points. She was also named the conference's swimmer of the meet with wins in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 & 200 breaststrokes.
An all-America honoree at the NCAA Division III Championships with a sixth-place finish in the 100 breast, Baker also earned honorable mention all-America in the 200 individual medley and the 200 breast.
Attewell (right), a goalkeeper on the field hockey team, is majoring in mathematics with a 3.90 grade point average through her first five semesters. She had a 1.43 goals against average with seven shutouts for the 12-8 Tigers and posted a .767 saves percentage. The all-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performer has played in and started 58 career games with a 1.38 goals against average and a .769 saves percentage with 15 career shutouts.
Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 15,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
