DePauw drops twinbill to Sewanee

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw allowed visiting Sewanee just four runs in their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader, but only scored one and dropped the twinbill by scores of 2-0 and 2-1. DePauw fell to 11-15 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC, while Sewanee improved to 11-15 and 2-2.

 

Eliza Herrera's bases loaded ground out in the first plated Molly Moore and Katie Payne's single through the left side scored Lauren Martin in the second for the game's only runs.

 

DePauw's best scoring opportunity came in the third when it loaded the bases with just one out. Sewanee recorded a force out at the plate and a ground out to short to end the threat.

 

Martin and pitcher Amy Owensby each collected two of Sewanee's eight hits and Owensby allowed just five hits in the shutout which lifted her record to 7-12. Nicole Kernan and Annie Morgan each totaled two hits for DePauw, while Lauren Curosh suffered the loss and allowed two unearned runs. Curosh dropped to 5-7 on the season.

 

In the nightcap, the Tigers loaded the bases in the second but failed to score before Sewanee took a 1-0 lead in the fifth as Kristin White led off with a triple and scored on Garrett Marquardt's grounder to second. DePauw tied the game in the sixth as Laura Schlensker led off the inning by reaching on a Sewanee error. Schlensker stole second and then scored on another Sewanee error.

 

Sewanee scored the game-winner in the seventh when Martin tripled with two outs and scored after Marquardt's grounder glanced off releiver Caroline Provan's glove.

 

Emily Foster had two of Sewanee's six hits, while Angela Keslin collected two of DePauw's three. Owensby improved to 8-12 and capped off a doubleheader that included just one unearned run allowed and only eight hits. Provan suffered the loss and dropped to 1-3 on the season.

 

DePauw travels to St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Wednesday.
