Transylvania Tops Washington in NCAA Softball Regional

May 13, 2010, Greencastle, Ind. — Sixth-seeded Transylvania scored two in the third and added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings on the way to a 4-2 win over third-seed Washigton-St. Louis in game 3 of the Greencastle, Indiana, Regional in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship.
Transylvania improved to 35-9 and will face the winner of the Denison-DePauw game on Friday at 4 p.m. Washington dropped to 34-10 and takes on the loser of the Denison-DePauw game on Friday at Noon in an elimination game.
Washington took a 1-0 lead in the first as Megan Fieser led off with a bunt single and moved to second on Ashton Hitchcock's sacrifice bunt. Fieser advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Corissa Santos' sacrifice fly.
The Pioneers gained the lead in the third as Alicia Winans led off with a double. Haleigh LeCompte entered as a pinch-runner and moved to third on Ashley Pait's bunt single. Pait then stole second and LeCompte scored on a throwing error on the play. Anne Broadhead followed with a single down the left field line which plated Pait.
Transylvania extended the lead to 3-2 in the sixth on Jessica Pierce's sacrifice fly which scored Megan Mitchell. Alex Spainhour's leadoff homer in the seventh made it 4-2. The Bears scored one in the seventh on Ashley Janssen's bases loaded sacrifice fly. Washington stranded two to end the game.
Five different Transylvania players collected one hit apiece, while Fieser had three of the Bears' seven hits.
Kendra DeArk improved to 22-4, while Claire Voris dropped to 18-6.
